Copper Brazed Plate Heat Exchangers

Copper brazed plate heat exchangers are made up of thin plates vacuum made of corrugated stainless steel welded with copper. Welded plate heat exchangers provide efficient heat transfer with a compact design. They provide a long service life and their design allows them to withstand extremely high temperatures and pressures.

They are used in a range of functions including refrigeration, heating, evaporation and condensation. Welded plate heat exchangers are widely used in refrigeration plants. They are normally used to transfer heat from the refrigerant - the primary fluid - and to cool water or brine as the secondary fluid.

The units in the Alfa Laval AC series of brazed heat exchangers are mostly used as:

  • Evaporators for dry expansion and cooling water
  • Condensers to reject or recover heat from water.
  • Economizers for cooling liquid refrigerant and superheating of refrigerant vapor.
They can also be used as:
  • Subcoolers to cool liquid refrigerants using well water.
  • Intermediate heat exchangers in the absorption cycle, to preheat the diluted solution or pre-cool the concentrated solution.

AC / ACH

Used for HVAC applications typically use a parallel flow to achieve more efficient heat transfer. In a single pass design, all connections are on one side of the exchanger, making installation very easy.

  • Evaporator and condenser in chillers and heat pumps
  • Total heat recovery in chillers
  • Liquid cooler in a direct system.

CB

In this type of heat exchangers the surfaces used to provide heat transfer from one medium to another are fine, corrugated stainless steel plates stacked on top of each other.

The two media are sealed within the package of the plate by a copper seal welded around the edge of the plates. This results in a heat exchanger that (unlike traditional designs) consists only of surfaces that actively contribute to heat transfer, resulting in a significant increase in overall efficiency.

  • Cooling water with water, oil with water, glycol with water and heating water with water.
